Tap water safety in the Bahamas varies significantly depending on which island you're visiting. In Nassau (New Providence) and on Paradise Island where most major resorts are located, tap water is treated and generally considered safe to drink. The Water and Sewerage Corporation manages water treatment in Nassau and water meets basic safety standards. Many tourists drink tap water in Nassau resorts without issues. Freeport on Grand Bahama also has treated water that is generally safe, though some visitors prefer bottled water as a precaution. However, water safety is less reliable on the Out Islands and Family Islands including Eleuthera, Exuma, Abaco, Andros, and others. Many of these islands have limited water infrastructure and rely heavily on desalination, rainwater collection, or well water which may not be adequately treated. Water quality can vary significantly between properties on the same island.

Some resorts and hotels have comprehensive filtration systems while smaller guesthouses and rental properties may not. The Bahamas faces water scarcity issues and many areas depend on desalinated seawater which can have a salty or mineral taste even when safe. Hurricane damage has affected water infrastructure on several islands in recent years. If visiting the Out Islands, always verify water safety with your accommodation.
